|

Hi Jon:
So I decided to check my iMagic documents files and discovered that the document I CANNOT access from iMagic directly, has in fact been produced.
When I attempted to open it by clicking on it, it did NOT open however I was given an option to:
- continue using:
Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Winword.exe/n/dde
- or -
Winword 2016
Only Winword 2016 opens it
= = = =
It appears that iMagic is still linking to my previous "shared" Office-365?
I just downloaded the latest version of iMagic software, hoping it would properly link but no such luck.
Also rebooted the computer which also didn't help.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the update.
iMagic Hotel Reservation will use the setting in Windows to launch the default application associated with RTF files. This happens when you click 'Print Confirmation', 'Print Receipt', etc for the guest's booking. It could be that the default application isn't able to open that file for some reason. As I think you've done already, you could try opening the file directly. This should open the document in the default application or it would provide an error message.
Now that you've set the default application in Windows, does it now launch from within iMagic Hotel?

Still cannot access any documents via iMagic, including any new one's created.
Even using Explorer, I can't open any of the rtf files by clicking on them.
I now have to first select "Word 2016" to open them.

Hi Bill,
Okay, it sounds like this is a file association issue in Windows. But can you please email me over one of the generated hotel guest receipt/confirmation files, I will try it here to see what it's giving me. My email can be found over on the main iMagic Hotel Reservation site:
http://www.imagichotelreservation.com/HotelSupport
On your end when you open the file directly, Windows should give you an option to 'always use this application to open the file', or words to that effect. This is what you would want to do rather than have it prompt you every time. iMagic Hotel is using the same setting in Windows, so if you set that it will work in the same way in iMagic Hotel. That is when you click the 'print' buttons (ie 'Print Receipt', 'Print Confirmation', etc for the guest).

Hi John:
When I opened Task Manager I noticed that MSWord was running as a BACKGROUND Task.
I deleted it and then tried resetting my Defaults including rtf files.
And now everything appears to be o.k.
Methinks that the BACKGROUND MSWord was preventing
me from getting the default changes to stick?

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the update.
I don't know, but yes it's certainly possible. Windows did go through some major changes in the way the settings work in Windows 10, I think Microsoft is still figuring it out. Half appears to be in the older style and the other in the newer. They also appear to want to move to an online settings style where you'd log in and it would download settings and apply them to the desktop. I suppose so you can use different devices and keep similar settings.
Good to hear it's now working!
