Dear John,

We have a computer technician at the office at the moment and he tells us, we need to have the computer running 24 hours to be able to use the hotel booking system through a VPN.
This is not a good idea, as I have no one here and don´t want to keep the computer running 24/7.

We have had the hotel system installed and used before on that same computer, 2 years ago, of course I can't remember how we had it set up then, but it was possible.
Can you tell us another way how to have the 2 laptops working with the hotel booking system?
I don´t want to transfer the iMagic from the desktop to the laptop and back again after we come back from holiday.

The other issue is, the system only starts up on the laptop when the iMagic is opened on the desktop and that with 2 bought versions? This cannot be either or is it just the settings which are not correctly installed?
They should both individually be able to start or not?
Please explain and copy in the computer man.

Thank you in advance and best regards,
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang/ Margriet,

Thanks for the post.

If nobody is using the PC at the office then why not shut it down, copy the database to your laptop and copy it back when you return? That would seem to be the simplest solution.

If somebody is at the hotel then you can connect via a VPN and use iMagic Hotel remotely.

The technical requirements are straightforward. If you're needing two PCs to use the same database then the database needs to be on the first one. This first PC would need to be switched on for the second PC to connect to it.

There are ways to remotely turn on a PC if that is a concern, it's usually referred to as 'wake on LAN'. But setting that up may be more work than you're prepared to do.

Regards, John
