| I would like to use a bar code scanner with the software. Other than looking for a barcode scanner that must insert the "scanned barcode into the keyboard buffer", what specifications do I need to look for? |

The easiest thing to say is that all barcode scanners would work. However in reality this isn't entirely true as there are some that are "proprietary" systems, that is they only work with very specific software. As a rule of thumb you can tell these because the scanner itself is $400+. An average "normal" scanner would be $50-$100 depending on features.
An easy test for a normal barcode scanner would be that you could open up something like Notepad or Word; then scan a barcode with the scanner and it will appear in that application.
