I've imported 20,000 items into our SQL database and now I'm experiencing exceeding slow load times with the application, including what appear to be timeout errors.

I also have an additional 24,000 items to import. The security login prompt seems to respond fairly quickly, so I'm thinking there may be an issue with either the database or the data fetching.

Error Number: 2147467259Module 'frmMain', Routine 'RefreshInventoryList', Line Number 19360

From the error that you sent in the message is:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.

Which would suggest to me that it's a hardware issue, possibly with your network. I'm not a network engineer but I'd probably start by PINGing the server for a few hundred times and see if you get a timeout or network connection error.

But yes a network connection would certainly slow down the system. Since it's running over TCPIP it would have to re-request the lost packets, which might be having to re-execute the entire SQL query again.

Regards, Jon

One thing I noticed, and thise may be part of the problem, was that the itemlocation table had two entries for each item id. I'm assuming that during the import process, the item is created with the default location, and then the location is updated with the correct location after the item is created.

I manually ran a delete query and performance has seemed to improve.

By design you should have a reference for an item in both the Default Location and also the Location it is stored in. I wouldn't recommend deleting the Default Location references as they are used in certain situations and you may run into problems later.

Again you might want to email over your import CSV file and I can check it's running OK here. I can also perform some performance tests if that helps.

Thanks for your email, however I'm unable to reply to it as it's bouncing back with the error, "Diagnostic-Code: smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not supported by Remote Host"

Also you've only included the backup database in the email, would it be possible for you to forward on the CSV files you are importing? In that way I can test the system from scratch and give you a benchmark.

Regards, Jon
